PEEPING TOM – COME ON A CRUISE FROM HELL IN THE TRIPTYCH
Østre Gasværk Teater, 23-25 May, 2024
Definition: Peeping Tom is a person who enjoys watching a sexual act or a naked person.
Dance has always had an erotic appeal. Back in the day, the world of ballet housed several delicate muses and mistresses for the ruling nobility. And many dance classics with the sensual at the center have come and gone. Even the dancers' costumes have evolved towards the more naked and real - although often in the name of aesthetics.
The Belgian dance company Peeping Tom is not from the Red Light District.
Men hvis man fjerner æstetikken, er der så i virkeligheden en lurende voyeur gemt i ethvert dansepublikum? Gemt i hver af os?

“Almost acrobatic danced actions, of such an originality, beauty and perfection that they are difficult to grasp.”
Diario de Sevilla
“A fascinating voyage, […] accompanied by eight fabulous interpreters, who seem to break the laws of nature with every single movement.”
ABC Sevilla
The duo Gabriela Carizzo and Franck Chartier, who are behind the ensemble, start their idea development with a familiar closed space; a garden, a cellar or, in this case, a ship, and then let surrealism and magic reign. Here we as the audience, or voyeurs, become part of an unstable universe with supernatural magic. Here, the cruise ship we can all imagine is transformed into a dark hell, where dance as a form of expression can flourish.
TRIPTYCH is an evening of 3 short works on a cruise where the hopeful expectations of the guests are met by challenges that turn the closed spaces into a fight for survival. With the audience as witness – or perhaps as voyeur – The Missing Door, The Lost Room and The Hidden Floor are the titles in the trilogy that has had its triumphal march around the world, including at the Paris Opera itself.
