The audience will sense the presence of history in the excerpt from Le Corsaire pas de deux, created more than 200 years ago by Marius Petipa, the father of Russian ballet. As well as pieces created throughout the 1960s and 1970s by important choreographers such as George Balanchine and Jerome Robbins who renewed the art of ballet with ingenious works like Tchaikovsky Pas de Deux and In the Night. In addition, three new-choreographed works will receive their world premiere, when young choreographers present their own version of ballet 2021.

Originating in their individual lives as a woman, a POC [person of color], and an LGBT activist, respectively, the choreographers Danielle Rowe, Baba Tunji Johnson, and Myles Thatcher have created personal works about equality and diversity. It is unusual for such issues to be expressed in dance since the most popular ballets were typically created many years ago when different ideals and norms ruled. With great respect for the ballet tradition, the San Francisco Ballet principles will give the audience a foretaste of where modern ballet is heading.

The San Francisco Ballet is among the best companies in the world. The artistic director of København Danser, Ulrik Birkkjær, is currently a principal with the American company and will also be dancing. Join us, when he and his colleagues from The San Francisco Ballet claim the stage, and the past, present, and future of ballet will combine into a splendid evening, accompanied by live music from Alexander McKenzie (piano), Niklas Walentin (violin), Carl-Erik Riestra (guitar) and Silas Bjerregaard (vocals).
